Do I lose 20 lbs. or buy a $ 4,000 Bicycle?
I was searching for an algorithm to evaluate the adequacy of my current bicycle setup. I am trying to get back into shape. I found a site: http://www.ssec.wisc.edu/~scotte/gearing/gearing.html which calculates the recommended gear combination based upon the following variables:
- the weight of your rig-- bike, gear, and self--
- the cadence you like to keep
- your power output
- and a grade--
Now for my situation the cadence and the power outputs are constant: Slow and Low. The grade of the hill is an act of God!
I started changing the first variable "Weight".
My current bicycle can carry me up the Rocky Mountains, The Alps or the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains!
If I lose 20 pounds.
