See No Evil
A travel tip for those heading to Broadway this summer: If the person next to your $ 100.00 seat is squirming, spitting and farting, don't call the usher. They are actually performing a time honored service! They probably saw a peacock in or around the lobby.
The sophisticated urbanite knows that seeing a peacock in or near a theatre is bad luck. Peacocks are believed to possess the "evil eye" in their tails. Most bad luck in a theatre can be expelled by having a person turn themselves around to the right three times, then spitting or farting.
My garden is really taking off with the warm weather we have experienced this last week. I am breathing a sigh of relief, as now I have a fighting chance of discovering who I am going to marry this fall. You may not find this fact in your favorite gardening book, but if you collect seven or nine different flowers on Midsummer Eve (24 June) and place them under your pillow it is said that you will dream of your future spouse.
I hope the lucky bridegroom is not a particularly heavy woman. My suitcase is a little flimsy, and as every frequent flyer knows, before traveling a person should sit on their luggage.
I should probably invest in some new luggage anyway, since traveling is in my immediate future. My feet have been itching a lot recently. Once I finish this post I am going to wash the dishes so that I know if I can expect visitors this afternoon or if I should tackle an important project:
- To drop a fork means a woman will visit
- To drop a knife means a man will visit
- To drop a spoon means a child will visit
- To drop a dishcloth means bad luck is coming
Have fun and stay safe today: Friday the Thirteenth!

The creature, called Swamp Thing, was originally conceived as Alec Holland mutating into a vegetable-like creature, a "muck-encrusted mockery of a man". However, under writer Alan Moore, Swamp Thing was reinvented as an elemental entity created upon the death of Alec Holland, with Holland's memory and personality intact. He is described as "a plant that thought it was Alec Holland, a plant that was trying its level best to be Alec Holland."
Alan Moore's Swamp Thing had a profound effect on mainstream comic books, being the first horror comic to approach the genre from a literary point of view since the EC horror comics of the 1950's, and broadened the scope of the series to include ecological and spiritual concerns while retaining its horror-fantasy roots.
Waldo County, situated in mid-coast Maine along scenic Penobscot Bay, has genuine New England character evidenced by working port towns and quaint rural villages. Visitors are awed by the area's unspoiled beauty. From striking coastal views to sweeping mountain vistas, dramatic natural settings abound. In addition great care has been taken to preserve and refurbish numerous historic landmarks, homes and buildings. Consequently, the Maine of yesteryear is still found here.
