The name isn't important. He had frighted me. He was a big man. I didn't know him.
However, the simple act of extending his hand....a very large hand, and offering a greeting, allayed my fears.
I have lived for many months in fear of my surroundings. Adversity, and my own foolishness, have caused me to seek refuge in a shelter for the homeless. I am learning the power that a simple introduction "Hello, I'm Jack. Nice to meet you." can have in defining my life, and probably will continue to do so for some time. I realize the need to protect myself against isolation and loneliness is an important duty. I am back to basics. Welcoming others has defined my behavior and closed the gap with my peers. As a result, the power of a simple greeting is one I have come to appreciate.

Fortune has allowed me to come full circle and return to my earlier interest in photography. I am at that age were some weight loss would be beneficial. I certainly don't believe all photographers need to starve, but my initial goals are realistic, if not humble. The industry has changed tremendously, but the possibilities are unlimited. I am grateful that my parents' gave me a generic name. It's allowed me to explore numerous paths unhindered.
