Many years ago I had invited some couples over for a dinner. The meal was roast rabbit. When the guests arrived, they were greeted at my front door with a fresh rabbit pelt. The meal, the evening was not a success. I don't think I put my best foot forward.
I live in a city with very good public transportation. However, every day when I enter a certain transit station I encounter a sight which disturbs me. The first thing you see is a large fan near the entrance. The fan is secured by an equally large chain. The links on the chain remind me of an anchor. They are large, rusty, they look like they have held ships in salt water.
I can't help but think that the transit authority is making a statement. They certainly could have chosen a less obtrusive, a more subtle method to secure the fan. I've seen many expensive pieces of equipment in other public areas bolted into a concrete floor.
There is no sign on the fan, but the message is clear. The transit authorities want every tourist, every working stiff that passes this fan to know how they feel.
"Hello tourists and hello working stiffs. We welcome you, but we don't trust you. We know, that you would steal this 8 foot, 200 pound fan in a heartbeat if we did not use this chain. Also, welcome to Boston"

In my not too distant past, if I were to see a street person, a bum, sleeping in a door front or on a park bench, I would have kept my distance and perhaps shrugged my shoulders.: He had the "smarts" to ask someone where to go, I didn't
Fortune has allowed me to come full circle and return to my earlier interest in photography. I am at that age were some weight loss would be beneficial. I certainly don't believe all photographers need to starve, but my initial goals are realistic, if not humble. The industry has changed tremendously, but the possibilities are unlimited. I am grateful that my parents' gave me a generic name. It's allowed me to explore numerous paths unhindered.
