Happy with who and what I am

A loner is simply someone that likes being alone, and is happy with who they are.

I've always been somewhat of a loner. I don't know why that is. I can honestly say that when I became truly unhappy with my situation, many problems were compounded by the fact that I had lived so long as a "loner".

Fortune has allowed me to come full circle and return to my earlier interest in photography. I am at that age were some weight loss would be beneficial. I certainly don't believe all photographers need to starve, but my initial goals are realistic, if not humble. The industry has changed tremendously, but the possibilities are unlimited. I am grateful that my parents' gave me a generic name. It's allowed me to explore numerous paths unhindered.

Measure the ratio of the length of your mouth to the width of your nose

Professor Hans-Henrik Stolum of Cambridge University once attempted to calculate the ratio between the actual distance of a river from beginning to end and the distance as the crow flies, its sinuosity. He measured several rivers as they wound their way through the countryside, from their humble origins to the point where they funneled into the sea, and then he measured the exact distance from beginning to end as if the river was perfectly straight.

The result was approximately 3.14159...pi (p), which is the circumference of a circle divided by its diameter. In science, in geography and in astronomy – p is all over the place, for some reason which eludes mathematicians and scientists to this day. The value of pi is known to 500 billion places. No cyclic patterns have been found and if mathematicians are correct none will ever be found no matter how many digits are calculated.

Another notable relationship is found in the human body. The ratio of the length of forearm to the length of the hand is equal to 1.618, that is, the Golden Ratio. This ratio has been used by mankind for centuries. Its use may have started as early as with the Egyptians in the design of the pyramids. The Renaissance artists knew it as the Divine Proportion.

Our attraction to another person's body increases if that body is symmetrical and in proportion. Likewise, if a face is in proportion, we are more likely to notice it and find it beautiful. Leonardo da Vinci's drawings of the human body emphasized its proportion.
